Healthy Schools Enhanced

Shanklea Primary School is part of the National Healthy Schools Programme, an exciting long-term initiative that helps young people and their schools to be healthy.

Healthy Schools help children and young people to reach their potential by building on a solid foundation of health to do better in learning and in life.

Children in Healthy Schools tell us that they feel healthier, happier and safer.

The Healthy Schools programme has brought sustained improvement in behaviour, standards of work and school management.

The impact of our programme is based on a whole-school approach to physical and emotional well-being focused on four core themes: Personal, Social & Health Education; Healthy Eating; Physical Activity; and Emotional Health & Wellbeing.

Shanklea Primary School has worked  towards broadening and deepening the Healthy Schools themes within our school and creating other opportunities to promote health throughout the school day.  We achieved ‘Healthy Schools Plus – Enhanced Status’.

There are numerous reasons why Healthy Schools Plus - Enhanced Status is so important for Shanklea Primary School. Several of these reasons are listed below:

  • • To further embed the Healthy Schools ethos
  • • To ensure the school community continues to promote Healthy Schools
  • • To ensure that the Every Child Matters agenda is a priority
  • • To ensure that schools are looking for ways in which to meet whole-school community needs
  • • To help ensure that supportive links are made between the Every Child Matters agenda, Healthy  Schools and other awards and projects
